Mushroom Inoculation

Getting your tiny magic mushrooms spores into a substrate medium is a process know as mushroom inoculation. If you do not have a mushroom substrate you can make your own substrate using the alien substrate recipe. Or you can order pre-sterilized substrate if you do not have the time or tools to make your own.

Tips for Successful Mushroom Inoculation |

  • Inoculate in a clean environment like a clean bathroom or kitchen.
  • Wear gloves and a mask along with clean clothes.
  • Wipe the you substrate needle with alcohol in-between inoculating each jar.
  • Store inoculated substrate in a cool dark place around 70F (21C)

A fully colonized substrate after being previously inoculated.

Once you inoculate your substrate the mushroom spores will take root and begin to growing into a ‘white fuzz’ know as mycelium. Fully colonized the substrate resembles a frosted ‘cake’. These cakes will then be put inside your terrarium to begin fruiting handfuls magic mushrooms.
