Light

Growing Weed with CFL and MylarCompact Fluorescent Bulbs (CFL) are best for budget grows. Bulbs evenly rated at 2700 kelvin are for Flowering. Bulbs rated at 6500 kelvin are for vegetative growing. The lamp is usually marked with this information, so check! Make sure you are using the right lights at the right stage of your plants growth. Both key spectra needed for developing potent robust buds.

The general rule when growing herb is the more light better. You want to reflect as much light possible back towards your plants. This means using reflective surfaces in your grow space. Don’t use tin foil! Use Mylar, old space blankets or paint your grow space flat white.

Grow Container

3 gallon containers (10L) are ideal for growing herb, though 5 gallon (20L) containers are doable but will take up more room in your grow space. If you are using soil GrowPots work best. Rigid containers are another option and are best suited for ‘hempy’ buckets.

Any plastic container will do but can’t be transparent, as the roots of your plant should never be exposed to light. As long as the container is not slimmer at the top than at the base and at least six inches tall it will work for growing weed.

Grow Medium

There are many options when it comes to deciding ‘what’ kind of medium to grow weed in. Using a soil like Miracle Grow with a continuous release fertilizer mixed in is the quickest solution for growing weed on the uber cheap.

If you don’t like the idea of chemical fertilizers then using an all organic soil is recommended. You will notice better flavor and fragrance with a more even slow burn. You can mix up your own batch of organic super soil with a fertilizer kit. Simply add and mix the organic fertilizer kit into any high quality potting soil and your good to grow

There are hydro-organic soilless mixes you can use as starter soil for your seeds (or clones). Once your plants are established in this medium you will then feed them using any premium 100% Organic all natural fertilizer liquids.

  • While hydro-organic methods will give you faster growth and higher yields.
  • Soil is much easier to work with and is best for absolute noobs.

Ventilation and Fans

Air flow is vital to growing healthy and strong weed . You need to make sure your small fan(s) circulate and flush fresh air into your grow area. This will help regulate and keep indoor grow temperatures at an even constant. Air movement will open the plant’s stomata while helping strengthen the stalks and branches by mimicking the winds and breezes found outdoors.

Ttemperatures that fluctuate erratically, getting too hot or cold will stress your plants and leave you with lower yields. An in-line fan is recommend for venting air out of the grow, while an adjustable (occilating) standing or clip on fan with adjustable speed settings is used to cool and move air around your plants, inside the grow.
